IEC 62619 Safety Testing Standard for Energy Storage Batteries
IEC 62619 Safety Testing Standard for Energy Storage Batteries
IEC 62619 focuses on the safety requirements for energy storage batteries and battery systems. It not only conducts safety tests such as external short circuit, impact, drop, thermal abuse, overcharge, and forced discharge on cells and battery modules, but also evaluates the functions of the Battery Management System (BMS), including overcharge voltage protection, overcharge current protection, overheating protection, and resistance to thermal runaway propagation.
As a standard for battery applications in industrial products, the release of IEC 62619:2017 fills the gap in lithium battery standards in this field. Lithium battery applications in industrial products include stationary products, such as telecommunications base stations, uninterruptible power supplies, energy storage systems, and emergency power supplies, as well as mobile products, such as forklifts, golf carts, automated guided vehicles, and other non-road vehicles.
In addition to covering traditional tests included in existing lithium battery standards, such as electrical tests, thermal tests, and mechanical tests, the new standard introduces dedicated sections to assess the Battery Management System (software evaluation). Previously, within the IEC system of battery standards, there were few clear requirements and assessment methods for the functional safety of batteries. With IEC 62619 standardizing the conventional safety and functional safety of industrial lithium batteries, it combines the trending technologies—functional safety and new energy batteries—effectively driving technological innovation and standard refinement.

Home Energy Storage with Solar Panels: How Does It Work
As homeowners look for cleaner and more reliable ways to power their homes, combining solar panels with a home energy storage system has become an increasingly popular solution. This integrated approach allows households to generate, store, and use their own electricity, reducing dependence on the traditional power grid while improving energy resilience.

Power outages caused by extreme weather, grid failures, or maintenance issues are becoming more frequent in many regions. As a result, homeowners are increasingly asking whether a home battery system can keep their house running during a blackout. The short answer is yes—but how much of your home it can power and for how long depends on several key factors.
